I believe that one of the most impressive insights from Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends Report this year is the statement that Generation Z communicates with images. Image usage could easily be criticised as a possible lack of words, but in my opinion we might be experiencing the exact opposite: the density images carry, creates a new form of communication that needs to be explored.
Today there are over 3 billion images (over 1.8 in 2014) shared every day among Facebook, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp (Facebook – Snapchat: 4-1, by the way). Visual usage continues to rise, creating anticipation for both AI and VR. It also urges for new methods and analytical approaches.
PS: Among loads of interesting data in the report, watch this space for India; according to the report, India is now the second global user market behind China, leaving USA behind with over 277M users.
